The scorer of Enyimba’s goal against Rivers United in Matchday 5 final game, Ekene Awazie has expressed joy that his side won the 2022/23 football season and revealed that his teammates prepared for it.
“We are champions. We deserved it and won it through hard work and focus. It was not won on a platter of gold because we sweated profusely and got the reward. You saw that it was a keenly contested match and only the fittest team won at the end of the day.
“Enyimba remain a formidable squad and Rivers United saw the other side of us when the game began. The fixture brought out the best of both teams. It was an equal exchange as we kept our cool and followed our game plan keenly,” he said.
Awazie also declared that his team was not outplayed by their opponent.
“Enyimba as an experienced and most successful team in the country has further proved such status when the chips were down. It was hard work and diligent that won this year’s league season for the Abia State team. Enyimba has been one team that has shown great strength, depth and focus this time. The last match brought out the best in us.
“What else can I say? Enyimba is the new champions. We have grabbed the juicy prize money which is winner takes all. We are not unmindful of the tedious task ahead.
“You know Enyimba’s team has some good measure of respect and influence amongst clubs playing in CAF championships where solid teams are lined up. We are ready as the management of the team knows the next step that would help build a rock-solid side,” Awazie emphasized.
