Coach of NPFL defending champions Rivers United of Port Harcourt, Stanley Eguma said his team is fully prepared for action in this year’s NPFL Championship Play-off even as he announced that their experience at continental football will be on display when they meet other teams in the tournament.
Speaking to GTI Media shortly after the draws for the competition at GTI Corporate Headquarters in Lagos, he declared that as the defending champion, they’ll put in their best to retain the title and will not give anything to chance beginning with their Match Day 1 encounter with Sunshine Stars of Akure.
“We’re aware that as defending champions other teams will be aiming to dethrone us but we have what it takes to win the NPFL Championship Play-off and once again emerge champions of the professional league.
“My boys have gotten some experience playing continental football and it’s that experience we’ll be banking on during the tourney and am hopeful we shall overcome,” he said.
Eguma while commending the Interim Management Committee and their strategic partners GTI for improvement witnessed in the present league season was optimistic that if it is sustained, Nigerian football will witness steady growth.
