Inter Lagos have lost three accrued points and goals for breaching Nigeria Premier Football League NPFL 2027 regulations.
League organisers charged the newly promoted side on multiple counts today after reviewing the team’s Matchday 7 fixture against Katsina United yesterday 4 October 2026.
The League accused the Lagos club of failure to provide adequate and effective security during their home game against Katsina.
This allowed unauthorized persons to gain access to restricted areas leading to attacks on match officials who were proceeding from the dressing room to their vehicle.
According to the NPFL, Inter also failed to ensure proper conduct of their officials and supporters.
Consequently, the match officials were held hostage for more than an hour after the match.
Furthermore, Inter Lagos officials in company of some of their supporters intimidated, harassed & verbally abused the match officials.
First assistant referee sustained an injury to the face and lost personal items including damage to his mobile telephone.
The NPFL said the violent acts were capable of bringing the game to disrepute.
As punishment, Inter will pay a fine of N2 million for failing to provide adequate and effective security and another N1 million for holding the match officials hostage.
Inter Lagos will also pay a fine of.N2 million for assault on the match officials & a further N250,000 as compensation to the affected assistant referee.
The quarter of a million naira covers the loss of the assistant referee’s personal items, damage to his mobile phone and treatment to the injury he sustained following the assault.
Alongside the financial punishment, Inter will forfeit three accrued points and goals for assault on the first assistant referee.
The newly promoted Lagos club have 48 hours from the date of notice to appeal the sanctions.
