Chairman of 2022/23 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL)champions, Enyimba FC of Aba, Chief Felix Anyansi -Agwu has assured football fans in the country that the former two-time African champions has what it takes to make the country proud in next year’s CAF Champions League (CCL).
The People’s Elephant last Sunday played out a 1-1 draw with defending champions Rivers United in the last match of the NPFL Championship Play-offs concluded at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena Onikan, Lagos. Both teams ended the round-robin game on nine points apiece with Enyimba having superior goals aggregate to be crowned champions of the abridged league. They also went home with the N100million at stake, as well as book a CAF Champions League ticket.
An overwhelmed Anyansi-Agwu told GTI Media immediately after the game that he is happy that the team overcame some of its difficult periods to emerge champions for the ninth time.
“I’m really overwhelmed with this victory which I believe was achieved out of hard work and dedication by the management, technical crew and players. This victory shows that with dedication and determination, you can overcome your challenges and surmount the insurmountable,” he said.
On his team’s chances at the continental level, the 1st Vice President of Nigeria Football Federation was emphatic that the team will do well at the continent, noting that they have the players that can make it happen.
“Talking about representing the country at next year’s CAF Champions League, I want to assure Nigerian soccer fans that Enyimba is equal to the task. We’ve won the competition twice in the past and the experience is still there, so there is no cause for alarm,” he concluded.
