Remo Stars were officially crowned the Nigeria Premier Football League champions on Sunday for the 2024/25 season. The trophy presentation was done following a 4-1 victory over Ikorodu City in Ikenne, Ogun State.
The trophy presentation was made on their home turf by the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun. The ceremony was a very significant one for Remo Stars as it is the very first league title for the privately-owned club.
Visitors and high-riding Ikorodu Stars opened scoring in the 15th minute of the Mother’s Day game. Remo Stars evergreen, Sikiru Alimi equalized in the 37th minute to start the foundation for a wonderful trophy presentation. The new Nigeria champions then took the lead through Ibrahim Shuaib in the 41st and Babatunde Bello scored the third in the 48th minute. The fourth Remo goal came in through Olamilekan Adedayo in the 67th and the jubilation stayed through the cup presentation.
Remo Stars now have 71 points with one game to go this season. They are followed by Rivers United and Abia Warriors. The champions will represent Nigeria next season in the CAF Champions League.
