At the Awka City Stadium, Enugu Rangers secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Doma United in their first Nigeria Premier Football League game of the 2023/24 season.
However, despite the win, the Enugu Commissioner of Sports, Barrister Lloyd Ekweremadu, expressed his dissatisfaction with the Flying Antelopes’ performance in terms of goal scoring.
The match saw an exciting start with Kalu Nweke and Austin Onyemachi of the Fidelis IIechukwu-led side establishing a comfortable 2-0 lead. Enugu Rangers seemed to be in control, but the visitors, Doma United, had different plans. In the 75th minute, Samuel Owoke pulled a goal back, injecting new life into the game.
Speaking after the match, Commissioner Ekweremadu stated, “It was a fair and good result for our team. We did very well, but honestly, we should have scored more. It’s the beginning of the season, and there’s a lot to work on, although it was a fantastic performance by our players.”
With high expectations for the season, the commissioner’s call for improved goal-scoring capabilities has set the bar high for the rejuvenated team.
The next test for Enugu Rangers will be an away match against Remo Stars in the Nigeria Premier Football League MatchDay two.
