Lobi Stars defeated Kwara United 1-0 on Saturday at the Lafia City Stadium in a critical matchday 15 encounter of the Nigeria Premier Football League, climbing out of the relegation zone with a tenacious display.
The Alia Boys maintained a firm grip on the game from the first whistle, displaying unrelenting focus and tenacity. Their breakthrough occurred in the 26th minute when Peter Onah seized upon a well-crafted pass from Ifeanyi Assurance, firing past Kwara United’s goalkeeper Nurudeen to secure a well-deserved advantage for Lobi Stars.
Despite the persistent attacking efforts of Onah, Assurance, and Waheed Adebayo, the Makurdi-based side remained firmly in control at the end of the first half.
Lönnström implemented tactical adjustments, introducing Suur Kumaga, Christian Madu, and Alao Dabani to maintain momentum. Kwara United valiantly fought back but were reduced to 10 men in the 87th minute after A. Aimufua received a second yellow card for a foul on John Lazarus.
In a post-match interview with the press, Coach Lönnström commended the team’s spirit and dedicated the win to the fans, reiterating the club’s commitment to upholding high standards of play.
