The much awaited 2023/24 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season will kickoff across eight Matchday centres this weekend as Rangers International battles Doma United in season opener, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The encounter, which will be played at the Flying Anteoples adopted home ground, the Awka City Stadium, will see the seven-time NPFL champions hope for all maximum three points at stake when they take on visitors, Doma United on Saturday in Awka.
With the arrival of head coach, Fidelis IIechukwu, came along some quality legs and hands to take the place of former players of the team that left to pitch tent with other sides in the league and are fully ready to start the season on a convincing, winning note over the visitors from Gombe.
With over 20 pre-season friendly matches prosecuted, winning 12, losing one and drawing seven. The Ilechukwu-led side is physically, psychologically and motivated for the task ahead this season.
Doma United is one of the clubs run privately and gained promotion into the elite league last two seasons and did well to maintain its Premiership status at the end of the Abridged League season but in the three matches involving both sides last season, Rangers had two wins (one in the Federation Cup) and a draw to enjoy the bragging rights going into this league opener.
Coach Ilechukwu will be expecting to start the new season with a new look Rangers’ midfield, with the likes of Ugwueze Chinemerem, Chidiebere Nwobodo, Chukwudi Nwaodu, Naziru Auwalu, Ugochukwu Ejike, and Kazeem Ogunleye all will battle for a place in the starting position against the ‘Savannah Tigers’ in Awka.
Rangers Int’l, during the 2022/23 NPFL Abridge League season lost 2-0 against Heartland FC in season’s opener, but will be hoping to secure a win against Doma United on Saturday , at the Awka City Stadium.
