Rivers United FC playmaker Chidiebube Duru has sent a warning signal to other teams competing at the ongoing 2022/23 NPFL championship play-offs that his team is in Lagos to consolidate their leadership in Nigeria by retaining the league trophy.
According to him, the Port Harcourt-based side is well-loaded and ready to unleash their football prowess against any team that opposes their quest to lift the NPFL trophy this season.
“We are in Lagos for this NPFL trophy and nothing else. We are focused and will never look back in ensuring we present the trophy to our new Governor Sim Fubara. We lack nothing now and so all hands are on deck to collectively do just that. You saw how confident the team played and that showed how prepared we are,” Duru insists.
Duru, who converted the penalty kick that gave his team victory over hard-fighting Sunshine Stars of Akure boasted that their day’s opponent was so lucky to have gone home with just one goal.
He further revealed that his team will never leave any stone unturned as the only language his teammates understand is attacking football and this important championship won’t be an exception.
“Our other opponents are in trouble. There will be no escape route for them. Truth is that Rivers United won’t let go until the destination and target are met. You can see the level of the game now. It remains the best that has happened to Nigeria League football. The current new face of the league he confessed must be sustained to greater heights,” he adds.
