Coach of Rivers United FC Stanley Eguma has thumbed up the efforts of GTI Asset Management & Trust Limited in repositioning the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) and described the ongoing NPFL season as one of the best in the history of the league. He added that GTI’s emergence into Nigeria’s football ecosystem marks the beginning of better things to come into league football in the country.
Eguma said this in an exclusive interview with GTI Media shortly after his boys defeated Sunshine Stars of Akure 1-0 at the ongoing NPFL Championship Play-off at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Arena in Onikan, Lagos at the weekend.
“I must tell you that the current strategic partners of the league GTI meant business and with that there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel in the NPFL. Now, you see that our league is getting the required funding attention and someday NPFL products will compete favourably amongst African teams at any level,” he observed.
Eguma who revealed that his boys played to instruction stressed that as the competition progresses, the team will continue to be evolving as Rivers United FC is in Lagos to lift the NPFL trophy.
“You can see yourself that our boys are fit and mean business and that is why they are in Lagos. The team is focused and good to go. They are fully aware of why they are here and must redouble their efforts to ensure that our target would be achieved.
“Every team competing in the championship is capable of winning the cup that is why the stake is high. No team wants to be a weeping team or minor,” he pointed out.
The veteran sweat merchant emphatically stated that his team will never underrate any opponent as such a gamble will prove costly because they have the ambition to return to continental football next season.
