Rivers United FC coach, Stanley Eguma said his boys gave good account of themselves during their keenly contested final day match of the 2022/23 NPFL Championship play-offs against Enyimba International but were very unlucky not to have won the trophy.
According to him, both sides exhibited good football artistry and noted that in the game of football the outcome remains unpredictable as the result could go either way within a twinkle of eyes. He added that the outcome of 2022/23 NPFL Championship Play-offs is now history but Rivers United will remain resolute in its quest to winning trophies for the state.
“We actually came to the championship to win and we did not hide it right from our first game. It is possible that along the way something may go wrong. We found ourselves in that situation as the competition lasted and Enyimba won via goals advantage. That confirmed the tightness of its all. The game has been won and lost. We will go back to the drawing board and fine-tune all loose ends going forward,” he declared.
Eguma thumbed-up the Rivers State government, fans, players and the technical crew for their unparalleled support to the team at the just concluded season. He added that he expects great improvement next season in the NPFL.
“The Nigerian league would get better with the current trend and I pray that the tempo would be sustained for our league to grow from strength to strength,” he concluded.
