Coach of current Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions, Enyimba International FC of Aba, George Finidi has declared that his lads played strictly to the dictates of their match plan against Rivers United and it paid off handsomely.
In a post match chat with GTI Media, he emphatically revealed that his team summarily studied the ways and patterns of play of their opponent and instantly adopted game strategy that clipped the wings of Rivers State team.
“You saw our approach to the epic game from start to finish. I told the boys never to give even an inch of a space to them and my players strictly followed. We also planned to score first in order to cut down their arrogance too. Frankly Enyimba brought with them into the field great measure of confidence as an oldie and former champions. Therefore, our team is a strong side that nobody can ignore,” he said confidently.
George also added that despite the earlier second half goal which his side conceded the robust defence and attacking option his team adopted also effectively checkmated and frustrated the desperation of Rivers United to defend the title it won last season.
“Our victory was well-deserved and never a fluke. Enyimba planned well and went for it. Our fans got worried during our first two games, but we reassured them and raised our game decisively in match day three against Lobi Stars. We saw our current status coming and we prepared squarely for it. Today we are presently NPFL champions for 2022/23 season,” he stated.
He assured that the team would recruit top-class players to fortify the squad ahead of next year’s CAF Champions League.
George further announced the resurgence of Enyimba in the CAF Championship League scene and revealed that they are being cautious about that, as the stage is set for greatness sooner than later for the club.
“We are grateful to our fans, sponsors, media and other critical stakeholders and current strategic partners to the NPFL, GTI. Our victory at the NPFL Championship Play-offs has set the tone for greater things to come to Enyimba. Gradually we will get there,” he concluded.
