After watching his team fail in winning a single match so far at the ongoing NPFL Championship Playoffs at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena Onikan, Lagos, the coach of Lobi Stars of Makurdi, Mohammed Baba-Ganaru has faulted the NPFL Championship Playoffs with a declaration that it is not the best way to determine the champion of the league.
Lobi Stars played out a goalless draw with Bendel Insurance in their first match before losing 0-1 to Enyimba on Match Day 2 of the competition. The team also played out another goalless draw with Rivers United before falling 0-2 to Remo Stars in Match Day 4 which Ganaru blamed on injuries and fatigue.
“It’s unfortunate that we’re using NPFL Championship Playoffs to determine the winner of the Premier League. As for me, we have to do away with an abridged league because it will not help the growth and development of our football.
“Lobi Stars performed poorly in the championship because it’s not easy playing four matches within six days as it caused us a lot of injuries and fatigue.
“The organisers of the league must ensure that the normal league format is followed as is done in other climes as that’s the only way we can get it right and the right winner will emerge,” he concluded.
