Bendel Insurance midfield maestro, Divine Nwachukwu is on ‘cloud 9’ after scoring his maiden goal at the ongoing Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) against Remo Stars in Ikenne at the weekend.
The workaholic midfield dazzler could not hide his excitement after scoring his first top-flight goal to help his side extend their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) unbeaten run to 14 games.
Group A leaders Insurance after going down 1-0 to Remo’s Franck Kwame’s goal in the 16th minute, saw Nwachukwu turn the heat on the home side via a flick from Ismail Sarki off Ebuka Akonbudu’s cross to drag his side level five minutes later.
Indeed, it was yet another five-star show from the boys from Benin and great thanks to the former junior international who joined the Benin side from Adoration FC before the start of the abridged season.
A very excited Nwachukwu did not hide his feelings as he poured out his feelings to reporters who covered the explosive encounter.
“I feel so happy for getting my first league goal and also securing a point for my team.
“The feeling is so special to me, I can’t even imagine it,” he began.
Nwachukwu who is a product of the NPFL/La Liga U15 tournament said he would have preferred his side to have won the game, but he’s still happy with the point garnered and the extension of their unbeaten run assured.
“I would have preferred a win in today’s game but fortunately it didn’t happen as we planned. We thank God for the point and our unbeaten run is still intact,” he added.
Insurance has now racked up five consecutive draws since the start of the second stanza with Nwachukwu admitting they are disappointing results.
“Frankly, it has been a disappointing result so far and not the result we all wanted, but we have to keep our heads up and look forward to the next game,” he concluded with great optimism.
Apart from his maiden goal, Nwachukwu has racked up four assists and also played in all 14 games for the Benin Arsenals this season.
Up next for Insurance is a home fixture against Elkanemi Warriors in Benin on MatchDay 15 next weekend and hopefully the homeboys will use the fixture to break even into winning ways.
