The Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Nasarawa State, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu, on Sunday, gave a personal cash donation to young sensation, Garba Mohammed, for his heroic goal against Abia Warriors in the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League match-day 27 tie played at the Umuahia Township Stadium.
Garba Mohammed’s 40th minute goal, his first in the elite league, ensured the Solid Miners share the spoils with their hosts in a highly contentious clash, after trailing in the 35th minute.
The visibly elated Commissioner was present at the match venue together with the Chief Whip of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Larry Ven-Bawa, where he promised to reward each goal scored by any player of the Solid Miners in the match with the cash sum of One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira(N150,000.00).
Kwanta made real his pledge as he gifted the team’s lone scorer with the largesse during the Half-Time period in their dressing room.
He said the gesture, and many others, would continue, in his earnest desire to recognise and reward excellence and hard work, and to boost both individual and team’s spirits to deliver impressive performances in the remaining part of the league campaign.
The new Commissioner assumed official duties on Monday, 24th February, 2025, after his appointment and posting by Governor Abdullahi Sule.
