Remo Stars climb to the top, Wikki Tourists shine again, and Plateau United’s winless run deepens in a drama-packed weekend of NPFL football.
The third week of the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) produced fireworks, drama, and a familiar story—teams finding it almost impossible to pick up points away from home.
With no away victories across 10 fixtures, six home sides celebrated wins, while only four matches ended in draws. A total of 12 goals were scored, showing how competitive the season has become.
At the heart of the talking points, Plateau United remain winless after three games, while newcomers Wikki Tourists and Warri Wolves continue to show promise. On the other hand, Barau FC and Kun Khalifa are already flirting with the relegation zone.
Barau FC 1-1 Bendel Insurance
Barau FC finally got their first NPFL goal of the season thanks to Yahya Ibrahim, who equalized deep into first-half added time. Bendel Insurance had earlier taken the lead in the 9th minute through Alex Oweilayefa. Both sides, however, remain winless after three matches, highlighting their slow start to the campaign.
El Kanemi Warriors 0-0 Rivers United
In Maiduguri, two heavyweights canceled each other out. Despite the pressure from the hosts, Rivers United’s resilience ensured a goalless stalemate. Both clubs now sit mid-table with five points each from three games.
Enyimba 0-0 Nasarawa United
Fans at the Aba stadium witnessed a nervy contest as Enyimba failed to break down Nasarawa United’s disciplined defence. The People’s Elephant remains unbeaten but has struggled to turn draws into victories.
Katsina United 1-0 Kano Pillars
The fierce Northern derby lived up to its billing as Azeez Falolu struck late in the 86th minute to hand Katsina United bragging rights. The stadium erupted in celebration as Kano Pillars suffered their first defeat of the season.
Kwara United 2-0 Kun Khalifa
Kwara United finally got their season up and running at home. Johnmark Atule opened the scoring in the 24th minute, while Kingsley Obiora wrapped it up with a late strike in the 82nd. Newly promoted Kun Khalifa are learning the harsh realities of NPFL football, with two losses and a draw so far.
Niger Tornadoes 1-0 Bayelsa United
In one of the biggest shocks of the weekend, Bayelsa United’s perfect run was ended in Minna. Ismael Saraki’s 27th-minute strike gave Tornadoes their first win of the season, leaving Bayelsa with their first taste of defeat.
Enugu Rangers 2-0 Plateau United
The Cathedral came alive as Rangers bagged their first victory of the campaign. Chidozie Iwunda scored on the stroke of halftime before Chidiebere Nwobodo sealed the win in the 80th minute. Plateau United’s nightmare start continues with three straight losses and only one goal scored and five conceded all season.
Remo Stars 1-0 Warri Wolves
The champions are beginning to show their pedigree. Samson Olasupo scored the decisive goal in the 77th minute, helping Remo Stars climb to the top of the table with seven points. Warri Wolves, however, have shown signs of resilience despite this setback.
Shooting Stars 1-1 Ikorodu City
At the Lekan Salami Stadium, Sodiq Ibrahim gave Shooting Stars an early lead before Shola Adelani equalized for Ikorodu City. Both teams are yet to record a win this season, with Coach Aweroro unable to defeat his former mentor, Coach Bright.
Wikki Tourists 1-0 Abia Warriors
Wikki Tourists made it two wins out of two at home thanks to Mairiga’s 74th-minute goal. The Bauchi side is now second on the table and proving tough to beat at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium.
