Doma United’s fast-rising star, Usman Musa scored twice as the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) newcomers returned to winning ways with an emphatic 2-0 win over relegation-threatened Wikki Tourists.
The homeboys, Doma United cut the gap to league leaders Lobi Stars to just one point, after they were subdued 3-0 by Bayelsa United in Yenagoa in the NPFL MatchDay 14 cracker.
The 22-year-old Doma United’s top scorer, Musa hit the back of the net in the 43rd minute when he converted a penalty from the spot inside the vital area of the visitors.
Musa also added his second goal with a delightfully right-footed dinked-finish three minutes after the restart of the second half. However, he could not add to his tally after being substituted mid-way through the second half.
Earlier in the game, goalkeeper James Faith made superb flying stops to deny Andrew Majalisa twice; first, it was a left-footed free-kick from the right side and the second was a thunderbolt of a shot after he controlled the ball with his right foot and drafted it to his favorite left to send in a fierce strike that the keeper managed to punch away from danger.
The Gombe-based side might have dominated the game, but Wikki Tourists had some fluffed chances as Kingdom Osayi was always on time to checkmate their attackers.
Prior to the Group B encounter, Doma United were fourth on the log behind Niger Tornadoes on goal difference but have now overtaken both Tornadoes and Rivers to move to the second spot on 22 points, just one point behind leaders Lobi Stars who have 23 points.
Meanwhile, Doma United will host high-flying Bayelsa United in MatchDay 15 of the NPFL at the Pantami Stadium on Sunday, April 23, 2023.
