Nigeria’s most successful club, Enyimba, could earn as much as N1.1 billion ($14m) if they win the inaugural African Super League, which kicks off next month across the African continent with eight teams participating, Exclusivenews.com.ng reports.
The amount represents N200m or $2.5m in participation fee and N920m or $11.5m winning prize money.
Enyimba remains Nigeria’s only club to have won the CAF Champions League twice in 2003 and 2004.
CAF introduced the Super League this term with the continent’s most successful and consistent clubs, especially those that have lifted the CAF Champions League in the past.
On Saturday,,September 2, CAF will conduct the draw for the continent’s flagship club competition in Cairo, Egypt.
The ASL will be played on League basis with the eight teams logged in two groups. The two top teams on the standings at the end of the group games will qualify for the semi finals.
The overall winners will take home the prize money of $11.5m or N920m.
South African Premier Soccer League, PSL, giants, Mamelodi Sundowns, Al Ahly of Egypt, Wydad Casablanca of Morocco, Esperance of Tunisia and TP Mazembe aqre amongst the continent’s best eight clubs for the competition.
Tanzania’s Simba SC and Angola’s Petro Atletico complete the list.
