The acting General Manager of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan, Dimeji Lawal, has urged the players to shake off Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Bendel Insurance and focus on their matchday 3 home game against Gombe United, which he described as a must-win for the Oluyole Warriors.
Addressing the players before their departure from Benin on Sunday morning, the ex-international hailed the players for fighting like Warriors during the match at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, adding that the loss should warm them up for subsequent matches of the 2023–2024 NPFL campaign.
“Guys, I want to thank you for putting up a good performance yesterday (Saturday). You really represented us very well, and I must commend you despite the loss,” said the former Nigerian winger, who doubles as the club’s team manager.
He continued, “The game is gone; the focus should be on the next game against Gombe United, which is a must-win.
“Like the coach said, all the mistakes noted in the encounter will be corrected before the next match, so let’s put our heads up and not be discouraged by the result of this match”, added the general manager, who also doubles as the club’s team manager.
The Ibadan Soccer Lords had the Matchday 2 clash under control for most of the encounter but were unable to hit the target for their efforts.
Meanwhile, Lawal said the entire team is solidly behind right back Gali Falke, who has come under criticism from some quarters after he mistakenly scored an own goal.
“You have been a very committed and disciplined player, very trustworthy. Don’t be deterred by whatever anybody says. For us as a team, we are behind you”, the former Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles’ player told the right back.
