Niger Tornadoes secured another vital home victory with a hard-fought win over the league’s defending champions, Remo Stars, in their NPFL Matchday 15 clash at the Bako Kontagora Stadium, Minna. The decisive moment came early, courtesy of a sharp finish from Clinton Jephta.
Jephta, netting his first goal since rejoining the Ikon Allah Boys, reacted quickest to a loose ball inside the box and fired home what eventually proved to be the lone goal of the encounter.
With Terdoo Shimagande unavailable, Sarki Ismaila spearheaded the attack alongside Abdulrasheed Shehu Dabai, whose blistering pace and movement constantly unsettled the visitors’ defence, although they were unable to add to the early advantage.
Remo Stars returned from the break with renewed intensity, pushing hard for an equaliser. However, the Tornadoes’ backline expertly marshalled by Sunday Akinmoladun and Ezeifule Chibueze remained disciplined and resilient, snuffing out every threat sent their way.
Speaking after the match, head coach Majin Mohammed praised his squad for their commitment, noting that defeating a top side like Remo Stars, last season’s champions, was no small achievement. He added that the team will approach their next away fixture against Kwara United with the same hunger and determination that saw them claim victory in Ilorin last season.
