Akwa United will take on Enyimba, the reigning Nigeria Professional Football League champions, in a friendly encounter on Wednesday. The friendly match is billed for the Uyo Township Stadium. The match is put together to prepare the two teams for the 2023–24 NPFL season. Nigeria Premier League champions Enyimba have named goalkeeper Ojo Olorunleke their new captain. The two-time African champions made the announcement on their official website. The 27-year-old’s appointment follows the departure of former captain, John Noble, who left the Aba giants following the expiration of his contract. Noble, who spent three years at Enyimba has teamed up with Tanzania Premier League club, Tabora United. Olorunleke joined Enyimba in September 2021 after severing ties with their local rivals Abia Warriors. Nigeria Professional Football League outfit Rivers United have appointed Evans Ogenyi as their new chief coach. He replaced Fatai Osho who stepped down from the position at the end of last season. Ogenyi has coached Warri Wolves and most recently Kano Pillars he took to the NPFL from the Nigeria National League (NNL). Nigerian Premier League champions Enyimba have released 11 players ahead of the 2023 Nigeria Professional Football League season. The Peoples’ Elephant made the announcement on their official website on Wednesday. Eight players left the club following the expiration of their contract, while three others were released on mutual consent. The players who left following the expiration of their contracts are; Emeka Obioma, Phillip Ozor, Chigozie Obasi, Adekunle Adeleke, Fatai Abdullahi, Samuel Kalu and Sadiq Abubakar.
